The Daedric Dagger is a weapon from the popular franchise, The Elder Scrolls. This is generally my go to in Skyrim. I wanted to try my hand at making a replica dagger, but not just a prop, I wanted to make a steel Daedric dagger.
I got a piece of medium carbon plate steel for the blade. Using a template, I drew the outline of the dagger onto the plate and then using a cutting torch I cut the shape out. The basic shape was a bit messy so I used a grinder to clean up the edges.
I ended up making the blade in two parts due to the design on the top of the blade being very difficult to cut out of a single piece. I welded the two halves together to form the blade and then attached the cross guard and handle.
The handle was made by cutting a section off of a car axle and then putting a slight bend in it and hammering out the ends. This was then welded to the blade.
After some grinding, the blade began to clean up. The next piece was the pommel. I attached this to the end of the hilt.
I noticed a bit of a design flaw with this pommel, the sharp edge on the top can cut into your arm, and since I wanted this to still be functional, I ended up rounding off this sharp edge. Here you can see the before and after.
Once I had the entire blade formed, I then sharpened the blade and prepped it for paint. I went for a basic black for the entire dagger and then a red strip down the blade.
The end result came out nice.
