This Wah pedal is clone of the CryBaby Wah pedal. The CryBaby is a wah pedal that was released around 1982. In fact, the CryBaby was actually a clone of the original VOX made in 1970. The wah sound is effectively a bandpass filter, it boosts the resonant frequency around 750Hz attenuating above and below harmonics. The wah-wah pedal was invented in 1966 by Lester Kushner and Brad Plunkett at Warwick Electronics. Warwick was a division of Whirlpool that owned Thomas Organ Company and Vox.

I mostly left the original circuit alone. I used a Fasel inductor as well. I etched the circuit board using the toner transfer method.

There are many off-board components since I made several changes after etching the board.

I’ve also got a true bypass switch. This bypasses the entire circuit and cuts the power when switched off. To activate and deactivate the pedal, the pedal is rocked all the way forward until the switch clicks.

This pedal is very useful in both rock and funk. Every pedal board needs a wah pedal.
